This is a guide on how to automatically send tweets from your WordPress site. This is a good way to keep your followers up to date with the content you are producing, and gathering more traffic to your website with the possibility of converting them to a customer.
WP to Twitter
The first thing you need to do is install the plugin ‘WP to Twitter’. If you are unsure of how to install a plugin then you can follow our guide here.
Once it is installed go to ‘Settings’ followed by ‘WP to Twitter’ and then begin to configure it.
Creating a Twitter App
Twitter requires authentication using OAuth protocol, so in order to use the WP to Twitter plugin, you have to create a Twitter App for your website. Go to the Twitter Apps page and sign in with your twitter account. Then enter the name for your app, a description, your website URL.
You then need to give the app read/write access to your twitter account. To do this click the ‘Settings’ tab and change it.
Next, go to your Twitter app’s ‘Details’ page. Click on ‘Create My Access Token’ button. Then copy your access token, access token secret, consumer key and consumer secret and copy them to WP to Twitter settings as you can see below.
Setting up WP to Twitter
You can customise the plugin, depending on how you want your posts to be set out and what post types you want to automatically tweet. There are also advanced settings that you can play with for example there are author settings where you can choose user roles.
